You're Not in the West End Now!

What is the show about?

A bold new one-woman comedy making its debut at Camden Fringe 2025

You're Not in the West End Now! is a riotous, heartfelt musical comedy from Katie McGarry that flips the glitz of Musical Theatre’s high kicks and jazz hands on its head. Born from the grit of Medway and the chaos of real life, this one-woman show is a love letter to musical theatre - with a twist.

Forget chandeliers and velvet curtains - welcome to the “Twix Club,” a budget-friendly, brilliantly scrappy alternative to the West End’s KitKat Club. Armed with a big voice and even bigger stories, Katie takes audiences on a whirlwind journey through showbiz dreams, romantic disasters, single motherhood, and the occasional mental breakdown - all set to the soundtrack of musical theatre’s greatest hits.

It's part personal memoir , part parody, and all heart. Whether you’re a die-hard musical fan or a self-proclaimed musical theatre sceptic, Katie’s sharp wit and raw honesty will have you laughing, crying, and cheering by the final curtain.

Come for the showtunes, stay for the hilarious and heartbreaking truth.

Whether you're a theatre lover, fringe regular, or just in need of a night out that packs a punch, this is not one to miss.

More Audience Feedback...

‘Katie McGarry has crafted an exceptional show. As a woman in my forties, I felt deeply seen and cared for. She made me laugh, cry and cheer in pure solidarity. Not only does Katie have a voice that’s simply stunning, but her story-telling - both spoken and sung - embraced me like a warm hug from an old friend. With the effortless grace of a natural performer, she guided the audience through a full spectrum of emotions. I left feeling understood, uplifted and empowered. This is an absolute must-see - every bit as captivating as any West End production!’

‘I’ve seen some exquisitely choreographed, wonderfully slick shows, but this… this relatable, raw, touching, funny, sweet and incredibly truthful show has my vote for what I’d want to see in the West End or wherever the delightfully charming, uber talented Katie wants it to fit. Hands down the best ever. It was an absolute privilege.’

‘Saw this last night and loved it. You’re Not in the West End Now is a cleverly ironic show, because with the impressive vocals and show stopping performances you absolutely feel like you are transported to the West End. Katie is both captivating and vulnerable as she takes you on a personal and emotional journey that is beautifully punctuated by her version of the musicals. Katie is hilarious, heartbreaking and honest as she lets you into her world, which by the end, everyone feels part of.’

‘Looking like Elizabeth Taylor, if Taylor had misspent her youth at the Gillingham Ice-bowl, McGarry takes us on a musical tour of her theatrical career - derailed, but ultimately re-routed by early single-parenthood. hEr voice is magnificent and she ends up (spoiler alert) triumphant - top off, tits out, bingo wings held proudly aloft. There’s a big cheeky glint in her eye and a look that says: Watch out showbiz… Katie McGarry is comin’ for ya!’

‘Katie McGarry’s ‘You’re Not in the West End Now’ is a dazzling blend of humor, heart and song, that takes the audience on a roller coaster ride through her life in Musical Theatre. From start to finish, it’s a performance that captivates, inspires and delights.

Through masterful storytelling and cleverly rewritten show tunes, McGarry retells her life story - one filled with passion, challenges and triumphs, in her love affair with Musical Theatre. The show is a heartfelt exploration of what it means to dream bi and stay true to yourself.

Katie’s voice is nothing short of breathtaking, effortlessly carrying you through moments of joy, melancholy, and humor. The rewritten show tunes are pure genius, blending humor and relatabilit, with iconic melodies we all know and love. Look out for her version of Memories!!

I found myself laughing, tearing up, and reflecting on my own life. McGarry’s raw honesty and stunning artistry left me both moved and inspired.’

‘You’re Not in the West End Now is a laugh out loud and painfully honest account of what it means to be a female in the performing arts! A well written searing indictment of the industry. Katie McGarry takes us on a backstage tour via candid chat and her reworking of musical theatre songs that pack a punch. Possibly even better than the original lyrics in my humble opinion. Her version of Memory, the hilarious highlight of the show and the heartbreaking honesty of Beauty and the Beast and Ariel, beautifully encapsulates the insidious misogyny that drips sometimes loudly, sometimes silently everywhere. Weaving her personal life challenges from Medway to the beckoning call of the West End and back. Whether you are a musical theatre fan, an occasional appreciator or a complete novice, this show will not disappoint.’
